How are Beliefs Determining Your Future?

Like a track under a train - our beliefs determine where we go and how we get there

Like a track under a train – our beliefs determine where we go and how we get there.

Beliefs are everything! They shape our thoughts and our feelings.  Beliefs control every aspect of our behavior from what we eat, if we exercise, our net-worth and self-worth and what we do with our time.  They determine the quality of relationships and ultimately our beliefs determine whether or not we live a life of joy, gratitude and contribution OR a life of misery, regret and pain.

As Humans, we live our life based on the deep-seated beliefs we hold. How are your beliefs affecting what you speak and the words that come out of your mouth?

Below I will give you 9 steps to create empowering beliefs and affirmations.  Download your own fill-able affirmations sheet here!

Beliefs are the roots that create the fruit in your life!

Are you producing good fruit or rotten fruit?

Think about the roots of a tree.  If the roots are healthy, you have a strong beautiful tree that produces yummy fruit.  But, if the roots are rotten, you aren’t going to get good leaves, a big tree and you certainly won’t get any good fruit.

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit”

You have the power to silence your doubts, limiting beliefs and negative thoughts by speaking life into the situation!

So, if you want to get better fruit (better results) in any area of your life you just don’t want to work on the exterior, you have to go deeper – you have to go to the roots – your beliefs! Your roots, create the fruit!!

Beliefs are “true” to the person that accepts that belief.

Not all beliefs are “good beliefs”.  Sometimes our beliefs are false beliefs we perceive to be the truth and they are harming us.

If you have had trouble reaching your dreams or goals in the past, the problem isn’t YOU – it’s not that you aren’t talented, hardworking or deserving (maybe you feel unworthy- that is another belief) but mostly it’s because you are lacking one specific belief in that area or accepting a false belief.

It’s difficult to do anything in life contrary to the belief we hold to be true in that area.

An Example of a False Belief:

The belief that “Money is the root of all evil”.  Is money really evil? No! God needs more good people with an abundant amount of money to do GREAT things!

However, if you have a belief that “Money is the root of all evil”, you will probably never be blessed with an abundant amount of money, no matter how hard you work to achieve your dream life goals to live a financially free life because of your belief you have about money.

That false belief stops you from taking any action that lines up with a goal of wanting financial freedom so you can make an impact in this world.

The beliefs we hold in our mind about ourselves or something dictate our life.

Every belief has consequences.  Your beliefs are either helping you or harming you –  supporting your ambition and goals or stopping it.  Your beliefs become the source of your limitations or your freedom.

Hence, if you want to change your life, change your beliefs. You can change your beliefs by changing your thoughts. You can change your thoughts in a variety of ways.  One way we are going to discuss is through Affirmations.

Beliefs can be changed through Affirmations

The most powerful words in the world are the words you say to yourself!  Daily use of positive affirmations can create great success habits AND interrupt and replace negative thoughts and beliefs if you let them!  An affirmation, or “I am” statement is a powerful positive declaration that set your goals, life and day in motion.

Furthermore, when they are repeated over and over, it affects our emotions and our feelings, which will in turn affect your actions and BELIEFS!  You can literally re-wire your brain – and install new beliefs. You CAN train your brain to think in new ways. ONE of the fastest ways to re-wire your brain and train it is through repetition – “repetition is the mother of skill” ~ Jim Rohn.

Affirmations are not a quick fix and they may seem silly at first and a far cry from your reality.  BUT this is where the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21) meets the power of the Holy Spirit to move mountains!! Whoo hoo!!  That excites me and I know that excites you too!

Steps to Create Empowering Beliefs & Affirmations:

1.  Start with “I am”

The two most powerful words! The subconscious mind takes any sentence that starts with the words “I AM” and interprets is as a command to make it happen! Cool huh?

2.  Use The Present Tense

Describe your belief or what you want as though you already have it, that it is already done!

Example:
“I am going to be an inspirational faith-filled speaker” – NO
“I am an inspirational faith-filled speaker” – YES

3.  State the affirmation in a positive way, affirm what you want, not what you don’t want.

Our unconscious doesn’t hear the words no, don’t, not. An example of this with our kids, when we say “don’t slam the door” all they hear and this is “slam the door” – what do they do? Slam the door!

Example:
“I am no longer afraid of public speaking” – NO
“I am enjoying the trill of public speaking” – YES

4.  Keep it Short.

It needs to be short enough to be memorable and easy to repeat.

5.  Make it Specific.

Vague affirmations produce vague results.  You want specific results? Make specific affirmation statements.

6.  Include action words ending with – ing.

Adding the action verb adds power and evokes the image in your mind of you doing it right now.

7.  Include at least one emotion or feeling word.

Some commonly used words are enjoying, joyfully, happily, celebrating, calmly, peacefully, enthusiastic

Example:
“I maintain my body weight of 150 pounds. – NO
“I am feeling enthusiastic and great at 150 pounds” – YES

8.  Make affirmations for yourself, not others.

Make sure affirmations describe your behavior, not the behavior of others.  The only person you can change is you.

9.  Keep affirmations aligned with your goals, passions and purpose!
