Welcome, Heather. I am so excited for our listeners to hear from you today.

Hi, Kristen. I am so excited to be here. I am just I always love talking with you. But just to have this podcast that you just started. I’m so excited for you. Yeah, this is just incredible. I always love spending time with you. And yeah, let’s do this.

Thank you. I met Heather a little over a year ago, we both were in the same Facebook group. And she joined an online workshop I held and getting to know her I realized we had very similar backgrounds. We both were in a career that was draining us and not feeding our soul.

We knew God had so much more in store for us. And I know those of you listening today, we’ll be able to relate to her as well. Heather had that inner craving to make an impact. And she had a passion for stewarding her finances. And she soon realized she even had more of a passion to teach others, especially faith-filled women and married couples, and what she had learned through her experience. And she took her knowledge and passion and experiences of stewarding her money according to biblical principles and created an online business to help others do the same. Heather truly is the example of that Christian nine to five career woman who transitioned to the Christian CEO, who I like to say is that faith-filled woman who is creating the life of her dreams and making an impact in income and doing what she loves, while fulfilling her God-given destiny on this side of heaven.

So Heather, tell us a little bit about your journey and the transition out of that nine to five into the financial coaching business you have now. And why do you have such a passion to help others become intentional with their money and manage it well?

Yes, so this is just something that I love talking about. But I do have a hard time being brief with it. So my best but yeah, I do feel like there were really a couple of reasons that I feel like this passion was, you know, God birthed this business for me over time, even though I didn’t realize it very early on. So I actually learned about money at a very early adult age. I think I was 19 as best as I can remember. I actually picked up a financial piece book by Dave Ramsey. And in the bookstore like, I feel like it’s totally God-ordained, like, why would I pick up a financial piece book at age 19?

In reading that book, I realized that there are basic principles to managing money, and actually make things super simple. And life is a lot less stressful. Yes, so when at that time, I didn’t realize what a blessing it was. But it was definitely a very good foundation to start as a young adult. And then my husband, and I actually got married, with three years left of college. So we, you know, what, that three years obviously, we weren’t making good money, like I was thinking about it, like our paychecks definitely did not have commas in them. But we were still able to live within our income during those three years of our marriage. And that was a big, that was a big thing. Like we weren’t really stressed about money, even though we didn’t make much And yeah, there wasn’t much, but we were still living on it just fine.

And at the time, I didn’t realize how abnormal that is. But, but that’s the way that we were doing it. So then, of course, when we graduated, our paycheck started having a comma, which is awesome, right. But unlike a lot of people who once you start making more money, you spend more money, it’s just natural, we all do it, my husband, and I did it too. But still, we were we have had those basic principles, and we still lived within those. And because of that early education, we knew immediately what we should do at that point, we knew we needed to pay off the car loan, we needed to pay off the student loan, student loans, I had student loans. And so we started doing that. And so we did that pretty quickly. And then after that, we realized like, wow, like this, you know, this is really a good way to live. Like there’s a lot of freedom, and that we have freedom to give more we have freedom to we actually when we paid off the debt, we actually went to St. Lucia and paid for it in cash. And we had freedom to do that, because we had paid off our debt. And we had, you know, we just really had learned how to manage money within our means.

So I realized that’s not the norm, definitely not in America, we’re actually kind of taught that. That is the way to live, like you can get ahead with debt and all those things. But overall, that’s not what the Bible tells us about money. And then the big thing was that pharmacists, I was working with pharmacists, they make a really good income, right. And they were like hoping and praying for overtime. And they would pick up like any overtime shifts that they could get because they needed a bigger paycheck, they needed to pay those bills, they wanted some extra spending money, but they were having to work overtime. And that is not the life I wanted, I didn’t want to spend most of my time working by any means.

But I started that’s when I really started to notice, like, the way that Eric and I had learned to manage money was not the way that the world manages money. And obviously, we don’t, you know, we aren’t taught we’re, we’re most of us aren’t taught early on or if we are we don’t care enough to implement the things we’re taught, I just started to realize that, you know, things were different. And but that it was a good thing, and that I could help other people. And at the time, I wasn’t doing anything about that. But I did realize, wow, this is something different that I could truly help other people with. And then the other thing too is just the effect that money management has on marriage, or I should say the lack of managing your money together.

And the Bible says to become one. But yeah, money is an area in a marriage where couples oftentimes remain separated. And Money Talks Can you know lead into arguments are all-out fights, there’s a lot of tension surrounding money and marriage. And so I started realizing too, that if you can get your money together and start coming together as one to steward your money, well, then you can have a better marriage. And that is powerful. And I started wanting that more for other people. I wanted other marriages to have more peace, more unity, like just all those things that I feel like God has for us, and that, that we don’t take advantage of just because we were really never taught basic financial principles according to His word. Clearly, I’m super passionate about it. I could talk about it forever. But we’ll leave it at that for now.

No, I love your passion. I love that and Christian women and Christian marriages, and everyone in general needs to know that money is a tool. And it’s a blessing. Once you learn to steward it according to the biblical principles. Life relationships definitely get a whole lot easier.

Yes, I think can improve. It’s so true.

And I know that we both have a passion and we want to inspire and encourage others to go after their God-given dreams. We both know that if we stay in an unfulfilled career, just because we went to school for it, or we have a degree in that profession that sometimes it leads to just draining you and it doesn’t fulfill your soul. And we want to show other Christian women that it is It’s possible that you can take that step of faith and create their powerful, profitable, and impactful online business to make an impact, doing what they love.

So as you took that leap of faith, decided that it was time to eventually leave your job, I know that it can be definitely scary, especially when you’re the primary breadwinner of your family like you are Heather. And that’s definitely not something that, you know, we take lightly. I know that we both have the same philosophy that it’s important to have a plan to start your business and to get it going before quitting your job. And I always like to tell my listeners to use your current job, you have to help start and finance that business idea that God’s laid on your heart to create. So what would you tell the Christian career woman listening today who really wants to take that step of faith, but they’re scared, and maybe they’re like us, and they are the breadwinner, and their income pays the bills and provides health insurance and all those other necessities? Or maybe they’re in debt up to their eyeballs and really have no idea where to start?

So what are some tips, some words of encouragement that you can give them to get in a more financially secure position while she’s working on her dream business?

Yes, that is so good. I mean, obviously, I I switched from being a pharmacist to a financial coach, two totally different careers. But we were able to do that because we were in a more financially secure position. And I guess the best tip I could give upfront would be truly seek, God truly asked him. What does faithful financial stewardship look like at this point for your family? For your current financial situation? What does that actually look like? And then what does it look like in light of the future business, that God is birthing inside you? Usually, that’s from a financial standpoint, that’s going to look like gaining more control over your money, breaking that paycheck to paycheck cycle, saving more paying off debt, if possible.

Obviously, you can’t do all that at once, there’s no way to do that. But usually one or two of those areas, is where you will need to start focusing to start getting yourself in a better financial position to be able to take that leap.

I will say too, and this is super powerful. And actually, I’m going to give a couple of examples from a cup from my two most recent clients, when they decided to start being faithful financial stewards and start managing their money differently when they came to me, so the first one that I started coaching, she three weeks into our coaching, this was just incredible. She received she and her husband received a deposit into their checking account for 1700 dollars and not expected a total surprise, but it was legit. It was their money that was deposited, but they didn’t realize they were going to get that. So immediately. God blessed that obedience to starting to manage money, according to His Word.

Wow, that is awesome. Yeah, I was like, Whoa, when she called me, these kinds of things made me want to tear up, especially when I first found out about them. I’m like, oh, praise God, like What a miracle. It’s so cool. But then even more than that, in the first, they’ve you know, they’ve had the same income for a while. And month after month after month, they hadn’t been saving anything. And a month and a half after she started coaching and truly working on her finances, they have saved 5500 dollars in a month and a half, after months, years of not really saving anything.

I just believe that God blesses that more than anything. When you become willing to be more faithful and your financial stewardship, he just, I just feel like he rewards his children. Now, obviously, we can’t guarantee that we’re not going to say 1700 dollars is going to show up in your bank account. But he just shows up in big ways. And it’s just incredible. I love that.

Yes, it’s so cool. And there’s actually there’s another client story to another one of my most recent clients. And she she had been paying on a debt for a while, not so much. And it was a small business lender. So it wasn’t like a big company. But she had made a payment. And then the lender, actually she actually ended up talking to the small business owner. And he said, You know what, you’ve been paying me faithfully, I want to forgive the rest of your debt. You don’t owe the rest of this debt. And she still had several, several hundred dollars of payments to make. But he basically said your debt is forgiven.

Like, that is incredible. And it was such a blessing to her and her family to be done with that. So I just can’t stress enough. When you do take that first step of obedience and you do start to work on stewarding your money that he just does some incredible things with that.

Oh, that is amazing. And I can definitely feel the passion that you have for that and how rewarding it is to know that you are doing what you love and you’re helping others get results.

Yes, yeah. And I mean so those are that’s kind of basically your tip like, just ask God, first of all, what is faithful financial stewardship look like. And then no matter, just know that no matter your current situation, I know a lot of people are scared, they’re scared to look at the numbers, it can be very overwhelming, cause some anxiety, lots of overwhelm in the beginning, but just know that there is hope. Just know that where you are now is not where you’ll stay. As long as you start, you just have to start. So as you work toward building that business, you know, work on your finances, that’s all I can. That’s really what I can say about that is work on your finances become more financially secure. And the sooner obviously, you can begin to truly take that leap, to start your business full time or to have your business full time.

I love that as Christianpreneurs, we can learn from others, we can learn from their mistakes, their accomplishments, and most importantly, we can learn from their knowledge and expertise. We can go faster and get to that next level when we model someone that has already been there.

So Heather, what is the biggest mistake you made when you quit your job as a pharmacist and stepped into the role of a Christian printer?

Yes, if I only could go back. I was so clueless. I quit in November of 2019. And I did not hire a business coach or anyone to help me until March of 2020. And I wish I would have had some type of mentor, business coach somebody to really help guide me at that time. And I know I would have had success so much faster, I would have you know, I would have been able to grow my income faster, a lot, a lot faster. Let me just tell you a huge shift happened when I found somebody who knew what they were doing. And told me it helped me figure out exactly what to do. And then started doing that and had had that accountability. I had the step the proven steps to get me to where I wanted to be a huge difference from when I first quit, and then when I actually hired that person. So I would definitely recommend and honestly, I should have started that before I quit.

So I would definitely say as soon as possible. Find that mentor, business coach, you know, you help people do this, too. I mean, I didn’t work with you specifically, but you help people do this. So start with Kristin and like, find somebody who knows what they’re doing. And let them guide you and let them get you there faster.

Yes, amen to that Heather and I both have invested in business coaches and mentors, and there is a coach out there. For every single thing you want to know, financial coach, like Heather is helping people steward their finances according to biblical principles, you can tap into that knowledge that people have their experience and what they’ve already learned to help you go faster and achieve your goals.

I truly believe that our success is inevitable. We just need to take that step of faith into what God’s calling us to step into. And figure out what our God-given genius zone our calling what we need to actually do in life, to live a fulfilled and significant life. And it is going to happen when you take those actions and do the things you need to do.

So Heather being a mom, a wife, even working full time, and being an entrepreneur is a lot of work. What did you do to find time to work and also grow your online business? And steward your finances? What actions and tips would you give our listeners who are now working a nine to five that want to break free from that nine to five that’s not feeding their soul and take that step of faith to create their online business?

Yeah, so there are several things. The first thing I would say my financial coaching for me actually started as a blog, which I would not recommend starting that route. If you want to make money, it takes way too long for most people. But it did get me started in thinking about things it was relatively cheap to get started with a blog, start somewhere, like do something there are so many things you can start doing now. You know, in the margins of life and, and with that, I just want to say I did not have one of those jobs where I could work on my business at work like it was non stop stressful. I was lucky to get a bathroom break like I was I wasn’t able to work on my side at work. Some people are able to, which I think is awesome. But I didn’t have that option. So I had to find time in the margins. But just see what you can do.

I mean, before you know get up early, it’s not the easiest for everybody. But the times when I was most productive and was able to make the most progress was when I woke up before my family and got some work done at the time I was blogging but then that transition into obtaining my financial coaching certification, and then starting to you know, really start finding my clients and finally figuring out how I can help people and you can always be learning.

Now, as I say that you definitely can always be learning but you also have to implement But I like to I, what I did my commute to work was 25 minutes. One way I would be learning and Zig Ziglar called it automobile University. So take advantage of automobile University, and learn like listen to podcasts, listen to audiobooks, I was able to my coaching trainings were videos, but it was usually just somebody talking. So I would push play, and just listen, you know, just listen to the trainings on my way to work. So you can do so much in the margins that can just really get you started. So, and I’ll also say, like, I didn’t watch my Netflix, I didn’t really do anything. You know, that was very occasional when I would take time to watch TV because I had things I wanted to do, because the last two years of pharmacy was sucking the life out of me literally.

Up until then, I had been I had really enjoyed it for the most part, but it got really bad really fast. And so yeah, I was very motivated. And TV was not worth my time at that point.

Right, I can definitely relate to that. You just need to find what works for you. And even though I’m still working that nine to five, I have a plan. I know what I need to do each day. And I set aside time a certain amount of time to do it. And yes, automobile University. Is that what you called it?

Yes. Zig Ziglar. Yeah. All the way. Yeah. Yes.

That is an amazing tip. Well, Heather, I would love it, if you could tell the listeners how they can connect with you and what resources you have available for them.

Sure. So currently I am, the easiest way to connect with me really is in my Facebook group, which is created for more financial stewardship community. It’s specifically for women, Christian women. And yeah, that’s where I have a lot of trainings in there, I can help you get started. And so definitely join that group. And then the other thing is, I have it’s basically an email mini-course on managing your money according to biblical principles. It’s just five days, it’s pretty simple. But it really can give you some guidance, if you’re trying to figure out where to start, where to currently start with your financial stewardship. So I would highly recommend signing up for that as well. I actually had called it I worked on that at the beginning of the year. So I actually called it the best financial year ever course. And then crazy enough, you know, 2020 Well, but I truly believe that if you start if you if you start managing your money based on biblical principles, that you really can have your best financial year ever, definitely sign up for that, if that’s something that you’re interested in.

Great. Thank you so much. That is going to be an amazing resource for our listeners, for sure. And I will link all of that information in the show notes below for those of you wanting to connect with Heather. So Heather, thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us today.
